Sunward Responds to Canada's Proposed Rocketry Regulations

Natural Resources Canada published a proposed update to the Explosives Act and Regulation in the Canada Gazette 1 on March 17,
2012.  The original legislation is outdated as it was written before 1920.

Public comment and feedback is invited and is available for 75 days after the publication date.  After the comments are received and
evaluated, which may result in changes, the Regulations will be published in Canada Gazette 2 and become law in early January 2013.

Certification Testing

I had the pleasure of helping to do the certification test for a new "O" motor from CTI.  By comparison, an "O" motor has 20,480.01 to 40,960.00 Installed Total Impulse (Newton-Seconds).  Compared to a "B" motor which has 2.51 to 5.00 total thrust - a factor of 8192 times ( 213).  Or, in other words, an "O" motor is equivalent to 8,192 "B" motors.  Yes, a big one.

Dr. Jeroen Louwers and Bob Pouliot were also present for the testing.

Tim MacLeod's Level 1 Certification

Congratulation to Tim MacLeod on his successful Level 1 flight yesterday, Saturday August 28, 2010 at the NAPAS launch. Tim is the designer of many Sunward rocket kits, including the Mercury Lander Jr, the Solar Eclipse, and many others.

Finally got his certification as he has been waiting almost 2 years for the flight.  He waited because of weather, too windy, scared to lose the rocket, etc.
